One of the fastest and safest ways to build an emergency fund is to open a savings account and have money automatically transferred from each paycheck.
Chesapeake Bank offers online-only accounts known as Clear Sky Accounts which can be opened and maintained entirely through the Clear Sky website. The funds in these accounts are FDIC-insured to the maximum limit of $250,000 per depositor. The Clear Sky Savings Account currently pays 1.04 percent APY on balances of $1 to $249,999. Balances of $250,000 and up earn 0.25 percent APY. The account has no monthly maintenance fees and no minimum balance requirements.
